We are more than just the sum of our expanding footprint of 4-Star early learning centers, we are a “fresh approach” to early learning that provides enriched early childhood education to the children of New Orleans!

Wilcox Academy of Early Learning Centers Mission:

Our mission is to promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children. We are responsible to give our little people the confidence and the tools that will guide them on their life’s journey. In addition, we develop partnerships with parents and guardians to keep the parents connected to the classroom activities.

Job Title: Infant and Toddler Teacher

Job Type: Full-time

Starting Pay Rate: $12 - $13.46 Per Hour, $16.25+ Per Hour with CDA or higher degree

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

The primary responsibilities for this position will include, but not be limited to the following:

General

  • Responsible for the care, supervision and management of a class of Infants and Toddlers (8 wks-36 months age) in accord with the goals and curriculum plan of WAEL.

  • Conduct focused observations of children

  • Develop action plans

  • Carry out activities on a daily basis and evaluate the effectiveness of child development activities

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of the children

  • Maintain regular communication with parents

  • Contribute to the effective operation of the overall early care and education center

  • Assuring compliance with codes of all State and local governing contracting agencies and partnerships

  • Works collaboratively with other staff members of WAEL.

  • Promote WAEL mission in all work and provide an environment where Wilcox’s Academy of Early Learning philosophy can foster.

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of each child by responding to their emotional, social, and physical needs as well as their educational needs.

  • Utilize developmentally appropriate practice and best practice methods at all times.

  • Provide excellent customer service according to the standards of WAEL by being customer service oriented and professional.

  • Engage children in activities and play that stimulates their development.

  • Appropriately supervise children while keeping them safe at all times.

  • Assist children with activities of daily life (restroom use, diapering, and hand washing).

  • Create and maintaining an environment that is clean, organized, and safe for every child.

  • Maintain a professional self-image and project the values of the organization at all times.

  • Sanitize classroom equipment by following timeline and checklist.

  • Must be physically able to perform the job of a teacher of young children.

  • Must be willing to accept supervision in order to improve work performance.

  • Reports to the Leadership Team: Coaches, Assistant Director, Director, and Executive Director/Owner.

Qualifications and Experience

Job Knowledge, Skills, Education, and Abilities

  • Must have a warm, positive, professional, and supportive attitude and disposition toward working with children and their families.

  • Must be reliable and able to arrive at work on time

  • Must be flexible in receiving assignments or adapting to changes in the program.

  • Must be willing to accept supervision in order to improve work performance.

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Must be physically able to perform the job of a teacher of young children including regular walking, kneeling, stooping, bending, and sitting on the floor to attend to children’s needs and program implementations.

  • Must be a team player.

  • Willing to enroll in a Child Development Associate (CDA) program upon hire and complete within six months of employment; or

  • Currently enrolled in a Child Development Associate (CDA) program and at least 6 months experience in teaching in a part day or full day program for infants and toddlers; or

  • A Child Development Associate credential (CDA) and at least 6 months experience in teaching in a part day or full day program for infants and toddlers; or

  • An Associate degree in child development or early childhood education and at least 6 months of experience in teaching in a part day or full day program for infants and toddlers; or

  • A college degree in an appropriate human service or education field (e.g. psychology, special education, music, social work, etc.) including some courses in child development, and at least 6 months experience in teaching in a part day or full day program for infants and toddlers; or

  • A college degree in child development or early education and at least 6 months experience in teaching in a part day or full day program for infants and toddlers.

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of the children

  • Maintain regular communication with parents

  • Contribute to the effective operation of the overall early care and education center.

Provisions:

  • 40 hour work week with hours available between 7 am and 5:30 pm

  • Competitive compensation commensurate with education and experience

COVID-19 considerations:

We believe in keeping our little people and staff safe check out our videos on our website on how we are doing our part: scheduled cleaning, detailed training and protocols, wearing mask and gloves, washing hands for 20 seconds, weekly teacher testing.
