ROLE OVERVIEW

Wilcox Academy is seeking a dedicated Assistant Director to support organizational success and student achievement by strengthening teacher capacity, instructional practices, and classroom quality. The Assistant Director serves as an instructional leader who supports educators through coaching, observation, modeling, feedback, and professional development.

This role works collaboratively with the Center Director and administrative team to ensure high-quality early learning experiences aligned with Wilcox Academy policies, procedures, culture, Louisiana licensing requirements, and early childhood quality indicators, including CLASS and TS Gold.

The Assistant Director promotes continuous improvement, lifelong learning, and excellence by supporting teachers, strengthening classroom practices, and helping create environments where children and educators thrive.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support the Center Director as needed by fulfilling the role of Staff in Charge

• Assist with daily center operations, administrative responsibilities, and maintaining compliance with organizational policies and procedures

• Support administrative tasks including updating child records, monitoring attendance, communicating important updates to staff, and ensuring proper documentation of accidents and incidents

• Build teacher capacity through coaching, collaboration, modeling, observation, and ongoing instructional support

• Support teachers in understanding and implementing curriculum, lesson plans, and developmentally appropriate practices

• Monitor classroom environments to ensure alignment with curriculum goals, health and safety standards, and best practices in early childhood education

• Observe classrooms to support curriculum implementation, instructional quality, and fidelity to lesson plans

• Model effective teaching strategies and provide hands-on guidance to strengthen teacher practice

• Support teachers with classroom management strategies and developmentally appropriate behavior guidance

• Ensure classrooms provide safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environments

• Support implementation of Teaching Strategies GOLD (TS Gold) by ensuring timely documentation, accurate assessment practices, and alignment between assessment data and lesson planning

• Review TS Gold reports to identify student progress, areas of growth, and opportunities for instructional improvement

• Support teachers in collecting meaningful documentation and using assessment information to inform classroom practices

• Become a Reliable CLASS Observer and conduct classroom observations using the CLASS observation tool

• Provide teachers with specific feedback, strategies, and coaching related to CLASS dimensions and indicators

• Collaboratively develop improvement plans that support teacher growth and classroom success

• Identify professional development needs based on classroom observations, assessment data, and individual teacher growth goals

• Provide professional development opportunities and resources to support continuous educator improvement

• Research and recommend additional professional development providers and learning opportunities as needed

• Collaborate with external educational coaches and support partners, including Boys Town, City Seats, B-3, and other funding program partners, to create aligned approaches for teacher support and development

• Maintain documentation including TS Gold reports, CLASS scores, observation notes, feedback forms, and classroom assessment records to support teacher evaluations and professional growth

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Education, or a closely related field; OR

• Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field; OR

• Bachelor's Degree in a related field with significant experience in early childhood instruction, coaching, and curriculum implementation

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of 3 years of successful teaching experience in an early childhood setting

• Minimum of 3 years of successful instructional coaching, mentoring, or leadership experience preferred

• Knowledge of Louisiana Licensing regulations and Louisiana Performance Profile requirements

• Experience with Teaching Strategies GOLD (TS GOLD)

• Experience conducting or interpreting CLASS observations (CLASS Reliability highly preferred or willingness to obtain certification)

• Strong understanding of developmentally appropriate practices for children birth through age five

The Instructional Leader serves as a key member of the leadership team, coaching and developing teachers through observation, modeling, data analysis, and continuous feedback. This role ensures high-quality classroom instruction aligned with Wilcox Academy policies, Louisiana Licensing requirements, Louisiana Performance Profile indicators (CLASS and Teaching Strategies GOLD), and the Love. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide instructional coaching and support to teachers through classroom observations, modeling, mentoring, and ongoing feedback

• Build teacher capacity by strengthening instructional practices and classroom management techniques

• Ensure implementation of Wilcox Academy curriculum with fidelity and alignment to lesson plans

• Review, monitor, and support completion of weekly Teaching Strategies GOLD (TS GOLD) documentation

• Analyze child assessment data to identify trends, monitor progress, and develop instructional improvement strategies

• Ensure lesson plans are developmentally appropriate, completed on time, and aligned with curriculum standards

• Verify classrooms are prepared with appropriate materials and learning environments to support effective instruction

• Conduct CLASS observations and provide coaching aligned to CLASS dimensions and indicators

• Become and maintain reliability as a CLASS Observer

• Develop individualized coaching and improvement plans for teachers based on classroom observations and data

• Monitor classroom environments to ensure compliance with health, safety, licensing, and developmental standards

• Support teachers with positive behavior guidance strategies and developmentally appropriate classroom management practices

• Promote effective classroom routines, scheduling, and time management

• Coordinate and facilitate professional development opportunities based on teacher needs and organizational goals

• Research and recommend professional development resources, trainers, and learning opportunities

• Maintain accurate documentation of classroom observations, coaching sessions, CLASS scores, TS GOLD reports, and teacher progress

• Collaborate with Center Directors, administrative leadership, and external educational coaches to ensure consistency in teacher support

• Support center readiness for licensing visits, quality assessments, and Performance Profile reviews
