Honoring Women, Celebrating Literacy, Inspiring Young Minds
Wilcox Academy of Early Learning proudly celebrated Women’s History Month and Literacy Month with meaningful moments that brought inspiration, representation, and a love of reading into our classrooms.
We were honored to welcome Dr. Libbie Sonnier, who spent time with our students reading Get Up, Stand Up by Bob Marley, sharing a powerful message about courage, voice, and standing confidently in who you are.
We also extend our gratitude to Dr. Tonya Rose, Dean of the College of Education at Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO), for reading Our Beautiful Colors and celebrating diversity, self-love, and the beauty found in every child.
Throughout the month, Wilcox Academy has continued to foster a love of literacy by helping students build their home libraries, with each child receiving a take-home book each Friday. These experiences reinforce the importance of representation, access, and early exposure to reading as foundational elements of lifelong learning.
Moments like these reflect the heart of our mission. When leaders show up for our children with intention and purpose, they help plant seeds of confidence, curiosity, and possibility that will grow for years to come.
We are grateful to these inspiring women for investing their time, voice, and presence in our learning community as we continue to Love. Learn. Lead.
